Review: Diabolikly Pink EP
Written by Thugmasta J

It’s not often that you hear rap coming out of Australia. Maybe it’s because they are so far away. Maybe it’s because Americans are not often exposed to aussie accents and it isn’t marketable. What ever the case, this is Nerdcore. A genre that uses the internet as a medium more than the radio. The internet knows no geographical boundaries. And thanks to the internet we are able to hear The Diabolikly Pink Ep.
Now before I go any farther I have to admit that MC Pink has a very heavy Australian accent. To an American, his flow feels a little awkward at first, but as the disc continues you get used to it and see that the guy is actually a pretty good rapper. His rhymes are clever and his delivery is solid. Never stumbling over rhymes his lyrics range from TV shows to his learning to embrace his nerdy rapper self. This Ep is a nice taste of MC Pink’s style and I can tell that if he keeps at it he’s only going to get better.
On the music side, Diabolik schooled it. The whole album has a bosanova Austin Powers-esque feel to it with a little new wave mixed in for good measure. It’s a refreshing sound on the hip hop scene and it compliments MC Pinks rhymes very well. The whole Ep is just flat out groovy.
My only real complaint about Diabolikly Pink is unbalanced feel between MC Pink’s raps and the samples. I think the samples add a great element to the Ep but there seems to be equal time split between the raps and the samples giving it an unbalanced feel. With the exception of Identity Crisis all the tracks are under three minutes long and a nice chunk of them are usually assorted clips playing over a beat. It would have been nice if the tracks were a little more fleshed out with more rhymes.
All and all though, this is a solid Nerdcore release. These two Aussies are only going to get better so it’s worth keeping an eye on them. As far as this release, it’s not gonna blow any minds, but it defiantly won’t disappoint either.
I give it a 4/5
